Having just switched from a telestock to a A2 stock I noticed unlike the short telestock buffer the A2 buffer has a weight or something free to move inside it. Is this normal or is the buffer defective?

The sliding weights inside the buffer assembly are the secret to the operation of the buffer. This motion prevents the bolt carrier from bouncing off the barrel extension and taking the system back out of battery or shrouding the firing pin.  A neat exercise in kinomatics!
