I have a buffer spring laying around that I want to use in my XM-16e1 build, but I dunno, it seems like it is long compared to other springs I've seen.  Laid out flat it measures 13", is this ok?

According to TM 9-1005-319-23 spring lengths are as follows:

RIFLE: 11 3/4 inches (29.85 cm) minimum to 13 1/2 inches (34.29 cm) maximum.

CARBINE: 10 1/16 inches (25.56 cm) minimum to 11 1/4 inches (28.58 cm) maximum.

Hey, thanks for posting that.  I have two carbine two-position buffer tubes, the new one is about 3/8" shorter than the other.  I also have two carbine buffer springs, one shorter than the other.  When I put the long spring in the short buffer, the bolt doesn't lock back, but it does when I put the shorted spring in.  I haven't shot it in that configuration yet because I was concerned about it, but now I'll go and measure the springs to see if they're within the specs you posted.
