I have a somewhat A1 clone with an original "D" type buttstock, with modern A2 buffer tube, spring, and buffer.  When firing, I can feel and hear the spring contracting and expanding while my cheek is pressed against the stock.  When my head is raised and not touching the stock, the sound in negligible.  The weapon functions perfectly and is extremely accurate/consistent.  Is this "Sound Transfer" normal with this type of rifle/stock?  Curious because my M4 style carbine is very quiet in that area.

Thanks,  Matt

it's like taking a screwdriver to listen for engine noises, put the tip of the screwdriver on the engine and press your forehead against the handle, you transfer sound through your bones. You get a better read on internal engine noise.

Maybe with the smaller carbine buffer you don't get as much noise?

Isn't it great !!  The sound of retro.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and jumped up and
down on my bed, remember the bed spring rattle ??

Dat's plastic and aluminum for ya,,dey just ain't like good ole wood and steel.. Takes a bit to get used to it if you're used to wood and steel battle rifles.

That's the sound of Freedom, baby!

M4-gery is likely quieter because the tube is smaller/shorter and the spring shorter, and the stock design different, which combine to alter the noise.

Many older folks don't hear the sproing much any more.  Something about a lackadasical approach to ear protection in our youth, in many cases.  Do not ax me how I know this......

Huh? What'd ya say? I resemble that remark. If my old self could have told my young self some things, I wonder if the young version would have even listened??
