On an 18" rifle gas system will a carbine buffer work or do I need an H or H2 buffer. Thanks

You really shouldn't have a problem running any one of those three buffers. You should be able to run it with an A2 rifle buffer which is much heavier than even an H3. A standard carbine buffer will just have the sharpest recoil impulse of those buffers.
