What is the difference between a 1-7" Twist, 1-8" Twist and a 1-9" Twist?  I am looking for a new barrel for my M4 carbine.

Been discussed many times. Faster twist will stabilize longer heavier bullets. 1-7 will cover any of the heavy projectiles and may do well with 55 grainers. The 1-9 should do well with 50-55 grainers and may stabilize heavier bullets. 1-8 is a good compromise.

For an M4 that is not ment to be a one hole tack driver a 1-8 or 1-9 will work well for most OTC ammunition.

Unless you plan on grouping 75gr bullets .5MOA or shooting unusually light bullets, get whatever is cheaper or available.

1:7 is milspec, but only because tracers need that fast of a twist to stabilize.

  1" and 2 inches.
The heavier and longer bullets will need a faster twist.  If shooting .22 LR go with a slower  twist.
