I really like the looks of the Bushmaster 24" Varminter extra heavy fluted barrel [part# P BBL-24VAR9A]. It comes with bolt and gas block for $369.95 [catalog price]. Is there better to be had for less money that look's like this barrel? Thank's for the help. |

First of all, the actual Varminter barrel is more of a match barrel, meaning they "tighten" things up all the way around on it. That's really what makes it so expensive, not so much the profile or the fluting. I just bought a Bushy Varminter last winter (my first AR). However, I swapped out the Varminter barrel for a National Match (read: Chrome Lined) barrel that was fluted. That's all you need, they look virtually identical. The National Match Heavy Barrel runs $195 + $50 (for fluting). And these prices are MSRP (so it can be had for less), which makes this barrel considerably less. Only thing that makes the Varminter barrel look so mean is it's full length fluting. So really any HBAR barrel with a similar profile and full length fluting will give you the same look.
