Hello everyone, this being my first post, I’d like to show my courtesy by telling those who run this site, as well as those who contribute to it, what a great site this is. The question I have concerns the dremmeling of a barrel extension to match M4 feed ramps on an upper. I’ve read the whole M4 feed ramp sticky about three times as well as performed a search, but I couldn’t find a clear answer to my question, which is: Will dremmeling the barrel extension cause a shorter life expectancy for the extension by removing anodizing, or is there no anodizing at this location to begin with? Will polishing the dremmeled area relieve some of the damage that can occur? The dremmeling will be done by del-ton, to match their upper with the anodized feed ramps. Thanks for the replies ahead of time gents, I know y’all will have the answer. |
Welcome aboard Tex. ![]() The barrel extension itself is steel. A little dremelling and polishing will get what you want. Now the receiver surrounding the extension is aluminum. I don't know that removing the anodizing will cause problems or not. But it seems many people are cutting their own M4 ramps now-a-days. |

+1 Dremeling and polishing M4 ramps into the steal barrel extension will not hurt anything or increase the wear. If you cut through the anodizing on the receiver itself, yes that will increase the wear tremendously. The hard coat anodizing is what protects the fairly soft aluminum from wear and tear. |
