Hello, I am looking to build my first.
I am looking at del-ton rifle kits. http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Rifle_Kits_16_s/57.htm I will be using this for plinking mostly. I am thinking of buying a 22LR conversion kit. My first question is about Barrel balance. I like the long site distance and the look of a 16" dissipator but it has a Heavy Barrel and I have read that some people feel they are not balanced well. I would like to know opinions of a well balanced barrel, preferably talking about the rifle configuration possibilities through the link. Secondly, I was wanting to buy a vertical grip/bipod combo. Does a vertical grip feel weird on a CAR length hand guard? As for last question, Does anyone have any beef with YHM flip up front and rear sights, or suggest for me to go with a basic a2 front sight? I might want an EOtech as money provides. Don't turn this into a Del-ton Bash thread; I am up for suggestions of other rifle kit suppliers, but please explain why. Thanks ahead of time. |

If plinking mainly, and only 1 ar have you thought of just a 22 upper?
Balance and weight IMO is a very personal choice. One of my old shooting buddies loved the balance of a classic, a1 20" rifle. Another thinks his with the short barrel and long perma muzzle break is the best. VFG is the same thing. I know several people with them on car handguards and enjoy them. Once again that's what they like. Best thing about the ar is you can change it around until it fits you and your style. Now on the upper selection, there are mounts that allow the use of optics with a fixed carry handle. I've used them in the past. If you think optics are in the future I'd suggest a flattop now with irons on it then upgrade to optics as you wish. |

I have thought about 22 upper only but my friend reloads .223 and I could use his equipment in the future, plus if I do need it for defense I would like to have the option.
I don't like Rifles that pull down and I am afraid a 6 pos stock would do that for a 20" or 16" heavy. I guess the real answer is to go to a few stores and feel them out. |
