Collection wall of the two AR-16 prototype rifles, one with the wood and one with the plastic pistol grip.

From...

The rear sight,in the two,is a longer pice that covers the upper receiver,as a plate,in the one with the wood grip the "plate" is covered at the front as in the one with the plastic grip the plate is open at the front. The welding spots that conect the upper receiver to the trunnion block are visible.

The magazines, used in the two, have some diferences, the wood forearms are slightly diferent.

How does that rear sight work? Appears to be a knurled rotating disc for adjustments of some sort, but not sure what plane. Elevation?

Haven't seen you around for a bit. Welcome back

No kidding!

So this is to the Ar18, what the Ar10 is to the Ar15/m16?

So who's going to start the manufacture of one that takes Ar10 fcg & bolt with cheap Fal mags?

I love these sheet metal rifles.

Very cool.

Rear sight looks like it would be rotated and different ranged peeps would come to the top.

Reminds me of the Leader Dynamics T2 sight.

Is the front of the sight base also used to mount optics?

Looks like a hook at the front of the upper that is used to latch the folding stock, like a late AK.

The AR-12 was the prototype for the AR-16,originaly it was developed to the the same gas system as the AR-10/AR-15 but as the patent was then sold to Colt E.Stoner changed for a short recoil system and the AR-12,a test prototype, was changed to use it,if the short recoil system AR-12 is the prototype for the AR-16 using that same system so if the AR-12 had used the original AR-10 system then the AR-16 would have used that same AR-10 system, the AR-16 would have been the same rifle but with a diferent system...(sorry for using SYSTEM that much )...

+1   I would offer FAL mags aren't as cheap as AR10 style mags as of late, (I Miss the days of $3 FAL mags!)

Ever since I saw the pics of the AR16 in one of the Ezell Small Arms of the World Editions back in the early 80s, I've thought that was the sexiest 308 rifle ever - and the wood is a classy touch!

With the short operating system, I'm willing to bet it had a lot of recoil.
