Any reasonably low priced new 20” 1/7” twist barrels available?  I can't find any other than $395 for  pure bred Colts at SAW.  Anybody know of any for sale, say at $200 and up?

Does LMT make standard 20" barrels or only for the MRP?

Bushmaster, but the 1/7 runs are not always available.

Pick up the phone and call:

Ask about their Bushmaster barrels...

SAW has 20"  Chromed Colt Barrels, 1-7 twist under the specials section for $250.  The FSB doesn't have a bayonet lug, and even though it says "compensator", it is a flash suppressor.  It is threaded on though.

I picked up a couple of these for my first two builds, nice stuff.

You have three options...

Colt - Heavy price tag and usually no bayo lug if that matter to you.
Bushmaster - You may have to wait but you can usually find one someplace. Eagle Firearms is a good place to check with first
FN - Fulton Armory sometimes has them. You will need to call to find out.

Numrich had new old stock Colt 1/7 HBARs "stripped" @ $180.  Roll marked "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR".  No FSB is included at all, but SPR builders don't use the oem style anyway.  Muzzle is threaded, chamber/bore are chrome lined so cutting it down may not be a good idea.    I have my 2nd one on order, I will get it turned down to "govt. profile".   HTH.

No FSB, but these are already drilled for the gas port, right?

Yes, the gas port is already drilled.

You will also need to provide your own barrel nut, but as most builders will use a free float tube that was not a consideration to me.

I'm becoming more and more intrigued by these barrels.  How's the service from Numrich?  Are they quick to ship out?

I ordered my SECOND one('cause I'm greedy!) before mentioning them here yesterday. This am they confirmed my order, and this pm they sent a UPS tracking number.  Is less than 24 hours from online order to shipping decent service?

For a SPR clone you want stainless, not chrome-lined, IIRC...

Usually, but the DMRs and such are moving towards this, and mounting the front sight on the rail.

I like the looks of these barrels Numrich sells. What kinds gas system do you put on them? I remember Forest said some types (pinned, screwed, or something?) might fall off under hard use, or some such.  If I get one of these barrels what do I do next? Do I need an extra long rail too?

Thanks for all the responses. I'm still learning my way around in this new territory of AR building.

Under “Colt AR15 / AR15A2 Original 20" Heavy Barrel,” Numrich has 7 barrels listed at $180.20. Are they all the same? It’s a bit confusing.

Here they are:

197300A   Colt AR15 - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY, AR15

197300B  Colt AR15 SPORTER - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY

197300C   Colt AR15-A1 - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY

197300D   Colt AR15-A2 - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY

197300E   Colt AR15-A2 FLAT TOP - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY

197300F   Colt CAR15 - BARREL & HANDGUARD ASSEMBLY

197300G   U.S. Military M16

Agreed, "real"(?) SPR's use stainless barrels.

But some of us prefer CHROME lined.

Others might prefer a COLT barrel to the aftermarket ones.

And even a few of us may prefer RIFLE length barrels, to squeeze every fps from 5.56 NATO.  18 inches was a COMPROMISE, which the individual needs to decide about for himself.

The original question was NOT about SPR's.  But $180 for a 20 inch, chromed lined Colt rifle barrel is not a bad price.
My first one shot sub-MOA @ 200 yards using a 2.75X Scout scope and Fed. GM 69's.  Another Colt chromed lined barrel that shoots quite well was a 1/12 Med. wt. from Fulton, doing 5 shots INSIDE 1.25 inches at 200 yards with Win 45 jhp's.  Arguments about terminal ballistics are irrelevant when you can PICK WHICH EYE SOCKET to punch a hole in...

ETA:  p/n 197300A is what I have been ordering.

Paladin, one more question.  Can you confirm these barrels are brand new?  Any chance at all they're used but re-finished?  Thanks for your help...

Well, my barrel arrived.  Service and shipping was very fast, shipping was $7.95.

Markings: C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR.  Barrel appears to be new and unissued, with a few light scuff marks from storage.  Chrome-lined from chamber to muzzle, wrapper date is 6/91.  No FSB as advertised, and an unexpected bonus for me was finding that no FSB holes were ever drilled in these barrels.  Nice!  I assumed that they once had FSBs installed but were removed for some reason - I was wrong.

Lack of a FSB and barrel nut may be a problem for some people, but if you're building a floated, scoped rifle these barrels are a great choice.  You know you were going to float your barrel and stick a flip-up front sight on it anyway.

I have absolutely no need for any more of these but this barrel is so nice I have the urge to buy more.

Now you know why I ordered the second one, due next Wed!  I plan to have it turned down under the handguards to govt. profile.  No telling when those barrels will run out...

I believe CMMG has 1/7 20" chrome lined.  Their pricers and quality are good.

OOPS! I was wrong.  They have just about everything else but 20".  SORRY.

I had been in contact with John(?) twice about those 20 inch 1/7's.  Apparently they never showed up, prompting me to go with these HBARs from Numrich.  The 16 inch 1/7 M4 barrel from CMMG was great, I sure wished they had come thru with the 20's...
