So i have been shooting higher quilty ammo through my bushmaster .223 for about 500 rounds problem free. It was getting a little expensive so i decided to buy some pmc in bulk and about 40 rounds in it started having problems with my second round i fire not chambering. Hopefully i am using the correct term for this but basically its not picking up the second round after i fire the first. Im pretty sure it has to do with the ammo but any sugestions would be appriciated on how to fix this problem!! Thanks |

Is the "second" round from any number of rounds loaded in the mag. or only the second one off of a full mag.? If you are using the same mag(s) that you used with the quality ammo, then it very well may be the ammo. Put the high quality stuff back in and see if all works OK first. Second, using the PMC, do the last round bolt catch test. If it fails then you have weak ammo or a gas leak or a partially clogged gas tube. If it passes, then add the full magazine friction to the cycling BC. If it is low pressure ammo, and you have a full mag (-1) pushing up against the BC, then it could be short stroking from the added mag. friction. Try offloading the mag. 30 to 20 or 20 to 10 and see if the second round still does not chamber. I am assuming that the 1st round is being extracted and ejected properly and you are starting with a full magazine, also, that your rifle is cycling, cocking the hammer, so when you pull the trigger the hammer falls but on an empty chamber. Make sure the Bolt and Bolt Carrier are cleaned and well lubed (hosed down with CLP, then set aside to drain and drops patted up). Low pressure rounds typically show more soot around the neck and shoulder of the fired cartridge because of poor sealing between the casing neck and the chamber. Also, casings from low pressure rounds may show primers partially backed out because the underpowered casing did not stretch back to the bolt face to reseat the primer at the peak pressure pulse. |

Thanks for your advice. Ya its the second round everytime. I will shoot once it ejects the cartridge properly and just doesnt re chamber. Then i reload the gun shoot again and same thing. When i cleaned the gun after shooting it was alot more dirty then usual. I ony put about 50 rounds through and i had to clean it more then when i put 200 rounds of better ammo through. Im going to try what you said and see. hopefully its just the ammo which i think it is. |
