I'm thinking of using this adapter . . .

. . . to mount my holosight to the left of center thus leaving room for a standard magnification scope (for LONG range shooting) in center of the rail.  The standard scope would have tall see through scope mount rings so I could still use the iron sights.  Would it work????

If you mounted it off to the left and you zeroed it at 50 yards how far off would it be at 25 yards? How about 100? Have you ever seen anybodys pictures of a Trijicon TA01NSN with a Dr.Optic mounted on top? I think this would do exactly what you are looking for. It's expensive though.

Check out this link. On the bottom of the page it will show a Dr.Optic on a ACOG. This is the first I have seen this but it will give you a good idea. If you search for awhile you can find the set up I was talking about. The Dr.Optic seems like it would work better mounted forward on the scope.

Yup.

Just get another AR (or upper) and make that one your long range gun.
