Hello all,
Im just looking for thoughts on what my next AR should be. I have been thinking about both a Middy or perhaps a SBR, something along the lines of 11.5 inches. Im not sure. Perhaps you have a better idea...

I would like to hear it.

You are going to want a AR with a 16" Pencil Barrel, Trust me on this one

I was thinking about that one. Even going as far as possibly just replacing the M4 style barrel on my 16" er with the pencil barrel. Do you think that I might see a significant difference in weight reduction? Would doing so sacrifice any other shooting characteristics?

Here are more ideas:

16" Gov't/ mid-weight profile middy
16" Dissipator middy carbine
16" RECCE middy (Navy SEALS Recon)
18" Special Purpose Rifle middy (SPR)
20" Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDM-R)
LMT MRP Monolithic FF rails - interchangeable barrels
6.8 mm Remington SPC caliber

So is that a thumbs down on the SBR?

+1 SBR & 16" lightweight barrel CAR

There are a lot of AR types, take your pic on what you need next.

I have a 16" M4 CAR, 16" mid-weight profile middy and a 20" Gov't profile M16A2 clone.

This weekend I'll be completing my RRA 16" 9 mm carbine build which I started last winter.

My next AR that I need is a SDM-R which I'm currently building my upper half now and then I'll get a dedicated lower for it later.

Black Rifle Disease (BRD) sucks.

I've got the carbine and 20'' riflle too, and I'm torn between building an SBR or an SPR. I'm leaning toward the short barrel just because they are not to common on the range. Either way I think my next project will start with an LMTw/SOPMOD lower.

My vote :SBR.

Thumb up on the SBR, but you'll spend less money on a lightweight!

Lightweights rock!

Buy ammo and cool things to shoot at. Maybe some steel auto-poppers? A case or two of ammo?

Wow...you're only in the first trimester of BRD...

You're screwed.

SBR without a doubt.

I went through the same thing. I built a 9mm SBR and it is FUN!

My vote is SBR.

To add to the list...
No idea what state you live in but... how about a suppressor?

7.62 Carbine, mid weight 18", FF

Keep it as light as possible - stripped down

SBR's are Bad*ss, thinking about building a couple more, get 1 while you can and you can always put a longer barrel on it until you get another receiver going.

16 middy Recce. less painful than a SBR no, no wait MRP all the way I have 2 and a 3rd on order. Got to MRP badness in the uppers section. I started with a 16 Bushy a few years ago than I sold it and went on to my present collection of a 14.5 M4gery, SPR, 16 Recce, 14.5 MRP QCB, and a 16" rifle now I have a 18" rifle on order and in the future maybe another CQB. Gawd I love MRP's. Like said above you can never have to many AR's. BTW hows your ammo and magazine stash? If its low I would spend there.

I've built my SBR (LMT). Mucho fun. Especially with a suppressor.

I'm now thinking about a 16-18" Gov't/medium profile middy. More or less a 3-gun-ish style rifle.

+1 on SBR.

Do it incrementally -- SBR one of your existing lowers. When the paperwork comes in, buy a barrel or complete upper. Then build out another stripped lower (trasferred as a pistol, of course) for whatever upper got orphaned by the SBR build.

You'll never buy another complete rifle. You'll just keep recombining the ones you have and adding pieces until you have more and more.

Oh, and get an 11.5" NON-HBAR for your SBR. My 11.5" HBAR handles heavier than my 14.5" M4, 16" fluted HBAR, or 20" gov't profile.
