Others might have already done this, but in case it hasn't been thought of.  If yo mount your 3x and aimpoint red dot where they butt up together, you can take off the flip up on the eye relief and swap it with the rubber piece on the eye relief of the 3x. That way when not in use, you can still have both exposed lens covered. Looks pretty cool too.
