I have an Aimpoint Pro that I've had for a couple months.  I haven't got out shooting in a while but pulled it out today.  Instead of a nice crisp dot I have more of an outline of a circle with a hole in it.  With the lights out it's even worse.  Just to make sure it wasn't me I  had my wife look at it without saying anything, just told her to tell me what she saw and gave the same description.  When it was new it wasn't as crisp as I had thought, more like three tightly packed dots than a single solid dot.  Anyone experience anything similar?  I guess I am going to have to send it back and the timing couldn't be worse with quals coming up in a couple of weeks.

I would call Aimpoint and explain the situation to them, I assume you are a police officer and they want to keep their LEO customers happy.

If you tell them your quals are coming up they may ship you a replacement next day air with a return label, never hurts to ask.

That's exactly the issue, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.  Just irritating the whole reason I went with Aimpoint was the durability and to have issues after only a few months of light use is frustrating.  I understand any mass produced product is going to have it's issues, I just seem to find my way into more than my fair share.

I understand your frustrations, I used to be a EoTech user until about 5 years ago

I had a 511 on both of my "primary" rifles and after buying a set of batteries every month for a year or so I got tired of it, so I sold both of them and replaced them with a CR123 model.

On my very first 3-gun competition after buying the new EoTech my batteries died right in the middle of the 3rd stage  needles to say I was pissed and sold it and went to a ML2 and never looked back.

Since then I have owned 2 Aimpoint's with no problems what so ever, don't let your "bad apple" turn you away from Aimpoint's, they really are great sites.

I just recently decided to give EoTech another go, and I picked up a XPS2 on the EE in a trade, I look forward to putting it through the paces.

I'm sticking with Aimpoint, there really isn't anything else out there that fits my criteria, good battery life and a 2MOA recticle.  I like the recticle of EO's but the battery life kills it, I want an always on optic.  I just need to get this one repaired and go one about my day.  I'll probably wait until after quals, I don't think it's bad enough to effect me there.  If I don't qual with it I won't be able to use the optic until we requal next year.  I'll send it off after we get done.

If you have a rear iron sight, look through it with the small aperture while the red dot is on.

Does it clean up the dot or change how it looks?

Actually, yeah it does.  It is a whole lot better when looking through the small aperture.  On the left side of the "dot" I can see a a semi-halo of three distinct dots as well and the aperture completely blocks those out and make the dot in and off itself much much crisper.  So is it me and not the optic?

Don't focus on the dot, focus on the target.

I have an ML3 and if I stare at the dot, it gets 'pixelated', for lack of a better term.  If I look through the sight and focus on my target, the dot clears up.

Boom, can't tell you for sure, but I'd guess it's not the sight. Have your wife and somebody else check it with the small app.

Some of the most common complaints with red dots are that they looks like a comet with a tail, or like a bunch of grape (my problem), or a misshapen blob,
Typically, all can be attributed to vision problems. The check with the small app usually eliminates the sight as the problem.

Rotate the optic while looking through it. If the reticle appears to rotate then the problem's w/the optic. If the reticle doesn't appear to rotate then the problem's w/your eyes.

How bright do you have it? I notice "flaring" when my T-1 is cranked WFO.

i had my wife look and go the same results. When looking through the small ape everything is fine.  What has grown to be the most irritating part is the tail that comes with it. It actually obscrures target.  The dot being a little off is easily dealt with.  You put whatever the design is that's coming up on trarget and go to work.  But the tails actually abscture targets and potential targets.  That will be a game breaker if that doesn't get sorted out.

Tomac - I'll give that a shot as soon as a can.

SonnyStag- Usually around seven but onncationally up to eight on bright days or down to 6 for dark overcast.  7 sees the vast majority of the action.

Yeah, this is the problem.  Especially when looking through the small aperture everything is ok.

Join the club man!

Just focus on the target and not the dot.  You'll do fine.  It's been working for me for years!

I just got my first Aimpoint today When I first checked it out I was worried. After some googling I figured it was me, it looked like a bunch of grapes as described above. When my Daughter looks through it she said it was a "perfect round dot"
Once I went outside and looked through it instead of at it; it seems much better. My eyes are not good and I had several injuries to them so that explained it.
