I bought a used ML2 recently, but have no experience with Aimpoints. There is a ring in the front of the unit that threads against the front lens. This ring was loose, and I tightened it up by hand, but it has worked loose again. I don't really see a functional purpose, so can anyone let me know what it is there for and how I can secure it without stripping the threads? The only thing I could think of is if it is some stop for a kill flash? Thanks...

You can see the ring here, looks like an inner hub nut with the spanner notches...

Are you certain you purchased a genuine Aimpoint and not a copy? Nothing has ever come loose on any of my M2s, and to my knowledge the ML2 is identical to the M2 minus the settings for NVG. Can you post a pic of the sides of your optic?

I'll pull one of mine out of the safe and take a look

Yeah, that's a real one

Checked two of my M2s, and I couldn't get anything in the front to budge.

ETA: Sorry I can't help you

Got a hold of Aimpoint. They said it is just supposed to sit in there to keep large debris out... It isn't supposed to be too tight or too loose... So, it's fine. Cool.
