This is my very first optic of any kind and I was real happy to get it. After opening the box and putting the battery in, I turned it on. Now, I am not sure if it is a problem with the optic or if I was just expecting a little more but the dot does not look correct to me. I was expecting a solid dot, but it is oblong and looks very distorted to me even at different settings. It is a very imperfect circle with "spikes" of red light over the whole rectile. Does that make sense?Tried to take a picture of it but it looks pretty solid in the picture. Can someone give me some advice please?
ETA: I would say that it looks more like scattered light than a red dot if that makes any more sense? |

Where did you get it from? My first suspicion would be that you may have a clone that was billed as the real thing. If that is not the case, did you purchase it new? Can you compare it to another locally or post a picture that captures what it is that you are seeing?
I've owned several Aimpoints, and a few clones too. Some of the clones that look decent didn't even look close under some magnification, but even true Aimpoints don't really have a clean, difinitive line around a perfect circle. It never really bothered me though, so I don't know if that's exactly what you're seeing. Saleen |

Do a search. This comes up a few times a month or so. It is your eyes that are not working 100%. There is nothing wrong with the optic. Either that, or you have the rheostat set too high. Focus on the target with both eyes and all will be clear. Also, do you have an astigmatism in your eyes? |

Try looking at it through a magnifier and see if that makes a difference. Also, find a gun store that carries them and compare yours to another one. There have been a few reports lately of bad "dots", but try to eliminate your eyeballs as the problem before you return it. Make sure you're looking "through" the tube at the target, not looking at the dot. I got rid of my Aimpoints and went with another RDS because I never really could get comfortable with them, but that's just me.
Also, don't dismiss the possibility that you may have a fake, even from a reputable dealer. They're getting into the "food chain" somehow, and even the packaging and manuals look genuine. |

This is pretty normal for people with bad eyes. When i first got my ML3 mine did the same thing and i freaked about it. There are a couple of things you can do to make it better.
1. if you wear glasses make sure they are as good as they can be. Even take your red dot with you when you go to your next eye appointment. And tell them what the problem is so they can work to get your glasses perfect. 2. Use a magnifier they dot will return to normal. 3. Turn the brightness down till you just can't see it then turn it up one click. 4. 4 is the easiest one to do. When your outside shooting you won't even notice it looking funny at all, so don't worry. Its too bright outside and the extra light will cancel out any dim streakes leaving you with a nice dot |

here's a few tests you can do:
rotate the optic. if the dot looks disfigured despite the orientation, it is your eyes. take a picture of the dot, the red dot should look normal in the picture. i have an astigmatism in my dominant eye, and the dot usually looks like this : |

I do not think it is a fake but I guess it could be. I don't know anyone else that has one around me so I hope the local fun store has one I can look at. I tried snapping a picture but it looks fine in the picture so maybe my eyes are going! |

Very common first look through a Aimpoint. It has all been mentioned but here is a link to the FAQ on Aimpoints web site that addresses it.

I always thought this was the simple thing of looking at the dot rather than the target? If you focus on the dot, it doesn't look like a dot, but a bunch of little fuzzy dots. If you focus on the target, the dot looks like a dot (unless you've got a problem with your eyes, which some people evidently do...) |

Yeah, I don't have it mounted yet but the mount should be here in a few days along with the buis. I think it is my eyes because I took it out in the sunlight and it did not look as bad. Stopped by ACME today on my way home from Clarksville but they were closed. Going to have to hit up some place else just to be sure before I mount it. Thanks fella's! |
