Not yet but give it time. I'm sure the thieves in China will be be offering an unlicensed blantant rip-off of the real thing soon enough.

Until then, keep checking the Equipment Exchange here and you'll find one.

I see the airsoft invasion continues. Is it just me or does this happen about once every two years?

Guys,
This one is just waiting for and ready for a clone.  There is no good reason for the price of the real thing to be so high.  I'll explain why.

Quality scopes cost big money mainly because of the reticle, lens quality, sight adjustment mechanism, nitrogen fill and additional features such as tritium, batteries, etc.

The aimpoint magnifier doesn't have a reticle.  It doesn't have any mechanical components for sight adjustment.  It is simply a metal tube with a couple of lenses and a nitrogen fill.  It is a simple, low magnification telescope without a focus or any other adjustment.

Good, quality lenses used to be expensive to make.  They really aren't anymore until you get up to the top 5% for precision style scopes.  Lens coatings are common and cheap.  Consequently, it wouldn't take much to make a 3x magnifier that would have all the durability of the Aimpoint unit and probably 1/3 the cost.

I see no problem with a manufacturer offering a lower cost alternative to the Aimpoint magnifier. What I do see as a problem is a manufacturer offering a replica, or blatant rip-off, of the Aimpoint magnifier. There is a difference at least in principle.

BTW, here's one definition of "clone"

1. An exact copy of a product, made legally or illegally, from documentation or by reverse engineering, and usually cheaper.

Please note the word's "exact copy" and "illegally". There in lies the problem.

If someone makes one, at about 1/4 to 1/3 the cost, and it's compatible with the Samson flip mount, then I'll buy one.  Otherwise, Aimpoint can keep their $400+, low power monocular.  You can get a decent variable power scope for under $200 - a fixed power, no reticle, monocular should be $100.

It would be nice if Leupold or Tasco came out with an alternative.

The people are right- they should be able to make one for under $100.  shit Tasco will make a whole scope for $25 this just eliminates a lot of the parts.

It wouldn't have to be a copy at all-- a piece of the tube body of the TASCO SS with a couple lenses and they'ld have a working product for probably $100.

That is why I've held off so long.  I can see absolutely no justification for the price other than its primary audience is usually willing to drop lots of money on gear.  If this was reasonally priced, I would have bought one a while ago.  However I keep holding off.

Absolutely. The price for the Aimpoint 3X is ridiculous.

I just bought two Celestron Spotting scopes, one 80mm and one 65mm, waterproof, lifetime "No Fault" warranty. The glass on these is being compared to the Konus Scopes by people that know much more about glass than I do. These are much more involved than a silly little "No Moving Parts" monocular, and I spent about $350 for BOTH, that's TWO good quality, fully warranteed spotting scopes for much less than the price of the Aimpoint 3X.

There is no reason that somebody can't come up with another option. Hopefully it won't be a clone, but it will be compatible with the Samson flip mount.

Argh. You want to talk about expensive. That flip mount, as cool as it is, costs a lot too. I wish Larue could make something like it.

It just goes to show that if you're the only game in town, you can charge almost whatever you want.

I agree with all of you guys, that's why I was asking. I like aimpoint products but the price for the 3X is just ridiculushinking.gif I mean a fiixed scope with no AO, reticle, etc. is just to much, or should I say not much for the price.

Guess I'll just have to wait until one of these vendors come up with an alternative. Anyway's thanks fellas for the input.

You need to go and buy the new Bushnell green OR red dot ACOG clone HERE

oh wait, it's just a hack attempt and is not magnified...

The flip mount could use a Larue mount but I would rather spend big for that- or I'm going to get something that falls apart.

The monocular- something cheaper should become availible. eventually someone will figure something out.  Aimpoint just charged $400 because they are used to charging that for a tube with two pieces of glass.  Why should they build a similar product for less money? HAHA

This would probably work well if there was a way to remove the reticle-- and it's $40.

It appears the novelty is in a extended eye relief monocular or a fixed power scope without a reticle.
