Okay, I have a  Shaw 15" Heavy Carbine Barrel (it's threaded), and I would some info.
So here goes......

I would like to know, how much weight is removed from a Heavy Carbine Length Barrel, when you Flute under the Handguard Area only.
And also if you do some fluting forward of the FSB, where the barrel is 0.750" dia.

Weight is really a problem for me now.  My back is not what it was before, and after 5 surgeries, it's a mess.  That's why I ask.  I have given alot of thought of getting one of those Pencil Thin Lightweight 16" Carbine barrels, just to get as light as possible.  Thinking that I should just try trading it for a LW Barrel.

On a friend's Oly with a 16" stainless carbine length gas system barrel, the weight difference was 1.4 lbs. according to Olympic, if memory serves. On a midlength system, the barrel would be heavier but the weight difference in fluting would also be larger. I remeber running across a barrel weight calculator online a few months ago, but I can't seem to locate the URL at the moment.
