| I have a local dealer that claims it is illegal to install a collapsible stock onto a post-ban lower. I showed him the open letter the ATF sent out about the sunset of the AWB and he still doesn't believe it can be done legally on post-ban lowers. Are there any BATF letters out there that specifically talk about installing no-ban and pre-ban parts on post-ban lowers? |
Have him call the Tech Branch and ask them himself. -Troy |

It is perfectly legal. Almost all dealers are threading barrels, adding flash hiders, 6 position stocks, and even bayonet lugs to post-ban stuff. I have a no-ban lower but a post ban upper. Which is at ADCO getting the barrel threaded as we speak. So I have all the evil features besides the bayo lug...which doesn't matter to me since I hear the bayonets don't work right with carbines anyways. |
Ain't that the sad truth! I found out the hard way once that there is NO educating an ignorant gun dealer. He claimed that federal law dictated that he had to receive a transferred firearm from another FFL. I politely explained to him that he was mistaken & that a private individual could send the gun directly to him so that it could be transferred to me. At this point he cops an attitude & lectures me that "it's his business to know about these things" and that he has been in the gun business for 10 years, and maybe I should trust him when he tells me how things work! ![]() I then pulled out a printed copy of the official BATF web page which explained in plain language how what I was saying was legal & correct and how what he was saying was bunk. I handed the sheet to the very visibly annoyed gun dealer and he proceeds to give it a quick glance, crumple it up into a ball, toss it across the room, and SCREAM AT ME TO GET THE HELL OUT OF HIS STORE BEFORE HE HAS ME REMOVED!!! He then comes out from behind the counter and escorts me to the door all the while complaining that he doesn’t have time for stupidity like mine, and that he doesn’t know what I'm trying to accomplish but that he is sure that I'm up to no good. Needless to say... I never went back into his store again, and I didn't shed a tear when he went out of business about a year later. |

Do it yourself following these detailed (with pictures) instructions: Installation Have Fun. |
| As much as I'm against gov't involvement in such matters, in some ways, required proficiency training and/or testing may be in order for some of these dealers that insist on staying so for out of touch with current events. All it takes is 10 min on Google to prove these guys dead assed wrong. |
