Guys, I got a problem. My RRA's bolt is stuck big time. I've pulled and pulled over and over on the charging handle and still can't get the bolt to come back. How can I get this to free up, how does it happen? Thanks guys.

Can you slide the carrier in and out when you open it up?

Any chance you assembled it without the bolt cam pin installed?

I can't open it up.

Edit: The bolt CARRIER is stuck. Sorry guys.

PUSH OUT THE FRONT AND REAR, PINS ON THE LOWER AND LIFT THE UPPER OFF

Then what? I still pull on the charging handle and it still won't budge.

You tried pulling back on the charging handle while whacking the buttplate on the ground yet?

Is there anything in the chamber?

I had some bad reloads that stopped the bolt dead in it's tracks...
Had to resort to gently prying the bolt out against the rear receiver lug.
end of problems, and bad ammo went bye-bye...

and copdills? stop shouting.

Is there a casing stuck inside, with bolt partially open (might be a spent round stuck above the bolt poss on gas tube)? If so, using a makeshift charging handle (i.e. screwdriver, spent brass, etc...some say knife but I would use something without a sharp edge. phillips head on multitool works well), stick it in front of the bolt and move it to the rear. Lock bolt, clear jam. If it's stuck forward then I'm not sure what the problem is...pics?

If the chamber is clear... Hold the AR vertical and slam the buttstock into the floor a few good times... Then try to charge the rifle...

With the safety on, and the rifle pointing upwards, get on the left side of the rifle (safety side). Raise your right foot and stomp down on the charging handle latch.

That has helped me remove 3 or 4 stuck casings in my M4gery.

That  just might work

Slamming your foot against the charging handle or slamming the whole rifle probably will work. However, I would not feel comfortable with those or similar methods for a couple reasons...not being able to control the action of the bolt being the most significant, especially if you are unsure whether there is or is not a round/rounds stuck in the chamber. But if it works it works, just wouldn't be my 1st choice.

kcnewbs1, and your first choice suggestion is?

Scroll up a few posts...but like I said, it only works if the bolt is stuck partially open. If it's stuck fully closed then go for the slam/kick methods.

Removing the upper from the lower will NOT release the bolt carrier. I think that was more for safety reasons. So the hammer wont accidentally fall on the pin when you are banging the charging handle around.... i know, that's highly unlikely .... but there is a slim chance shit can happen none the less.

When a similar situation happened to me, I removed my upper, set it down on a tire (I was at the range then), pointed it downrange, held it down firmly with my left hand and pulled on the CH with my right. Yup ... it did not come out on the first try. I had to do it several times before it finally came off. Fingers were really sore after that.

If it still does not work ... then maybe slam the CH down with a piece of 2x2 wood. I was about to do that when the bolt finally came off.

Good luck. Stay safe.

I had the same problem and I took my upper off and I eventually was able to pull the carrier out, it just took some time and some patience.  The reason why my carrier was stuck was because the ammo I was using was tearing at the rim and leaving little pieces of brass in the upper and not allowing the carrier to move.

good luck and let us know what happened

Got it fixed. Just slammed it on the floor while putting a little pressure on the charging handle.
I think maybe a little corrosion might've been on the end of the gas tube. Also, the bolt lugs were pretty dirty.

It will release the carrier if the problem is being caused by a buffer retaining pin that is coming up too far and blocking the carrier.  And if that isn't the problem then it will let you get to the bottom of the carrier with a flat-head screwdriver and pry it open.
