I'm building an M16A1 replica, and just got my M16A1 butt stock ordered.  The stock did not come with the buffer, buffer tube, or buffer spring.  Are these parts the same as the M16A2 or do I need parts specific to the A1?  Thanks!

Everything's the same, except you will need a shorter upper screw, and the spacer isn't needed with an A1 stock. As far as where to get the screw, I'm pretty sure most of the site vendors can hook you up. Try posting a WTB ad in the EE, and you may just get one for next to nothing from one of the members here.

the buffer tube, spring, and buffer are the same.  the a2 uses a spacer and a longer screw to account for the longer a2 length.  you will have to use the shorter a1 screw to go with your stock.

By "shorter screw" if you mean the A1 buttstock screw, I already have it.  Or is there another screw I need?

If you've already got the shorter screw that is specific to the A1 stock, then you are good to go. The A2 screw is longer, and when used in an A1 stock, it can contact the rear of the buffer during firing.
