| I am thinking of purchasing an ACOG for my rifle, this will be my first piece of glass (always used irons) so I am a little ignorant on this subject. With the ACOG, does it require a specific grain of bullet to take advantage of the bullet drop compensation feature(i.e. 68gr)? I am looking at getting one of the TA31DOC versions. Any help would be appreciated. |

The BDC is calibrated for a specific type of ammo, barrel length and mounting height. If you change any of those things, it will affect the point of impact and change where you need to hold on the BDC. However, there generally isn't a significant difference until you start shooting past 300m. You can also check out the Big ACOG BDC Chart tacked at the top of the Optics forum to see how to adjust the sight in procedure to match whatever ammo, barrel length and mounting height you plan to use. |
