The original A2 stock has always had the right length for me. I have a VILTOR enhanced adjustable that just does not mount up comfortably. In today's market, where would I find the highest quality A2 stock kit? Should I search for vintage Colt or is there a producer making new ones? Thanks, Hobo |

Thanks, Hobo If you're wanting the standard M16A2 stock, then I would just go with the Colt model, it's the easiest and best way to ensure that you're getting the proper DuPont Zytel, instead of a cheaper, lesser polymer. If you're wanting to look into other stock designs that are A2 length, then there might be other options to consider, if you want a lot of adjustability, possibly a KAC M110 stock might be worth looking for, but it won't be cheap. ~Augee |

Again, how do I know it's Zytel? Take it off a Colt rifle yourself?
I don't know how to tell just by looking, my A2 stocks are either Colt complete rifle take-offs or USGI surplus stock bodies. IMHO, easy way to make sure you get the right thing, and usually cheaper than aftermarket stock kits to begin with. ~Augee |

....Which begs the question from another thread. How do you know if you're getting a 7075 Receiver extension instead of a cheapie 6065 knock-off??? Same answer?
ETA: If it's a big deal to you, and the manufacturer/distributor won't give you that information, and you can't physically take it off a Colt rifle yourself or have reasonable certainty that it was, my imperfect solution would simply be to order from a stocking Colt dealer like SAW or Brownell's, and pay whatever extra you have to for your peace of mind. ~Augee |
| I have a colt 6601 so I have the real deal to compare to. Some I've seen are really poor quality., filled with white styrofoam even. I ended up getting a PSA one for my A4 build. They say it's USA made to mil specs, but doesn't list actual material. It's a quality piece and I am happy with it, but it does seem different from the one on the Colt.... But I can't really put my finger on why I think that. Still, it's a nice product at a good price for you to consider. |
