i was wondering how long of a barrel it would take to make a 147 gr 9mm subsonic load go super sonic. I will be getting a 9mm upper and suppressor and really need to know if i will be able to shoot an 11 1/2 or 10" barrel without worrying about the rounds going super sonic. how long of a barrel would it take to make a normal sub sonic 9mm round go super or is this even possible? I really wouldnt want to have to go shorter than 10" max.
Thanks for the help,
Jeremy
BTW, does anybody know if that 9mm Russian Silver Bear 145 gr bulk ammo would be subonic or not in a set up like im talking about, because that would be a great price(500rds=52.50)

Hog,The silverbear 147grn jhp will stay subsonic in even a 16" barrel. I love it in my RRA 9mm...BUT it will not function 100% with my uzi mags...I have some South African "contract" mags that taper up to single stack and they will feed the Silverbear 100%..IIRC Joe Black has done some chamber/feedramp Mods to his 9mm to reliably feed them so maybe he'll chime in on this one,and of course as always YMMV..........UNDERDOG

It depends on the load.  Here's some specific results I got from a test session with my Colt upper (10.5" barrel) and Taurus PT99 (5" barrel) with my AAC Phantom supressor:

Samson 158 gr subsonic

Colt- 942 fps, Taurus- 961 fps

Winchester 147 subsonic

Colt- 1017 fps, Taurus- 985 fps

Federal 147 HP

Colt- 1056 fps, Taurus- 1010 fps

Speer 147 Gold Dot

Colt- 1072 fps, Taurus- 1052 fps

Note that the Samson 158s were actually slower in the longer barrel!

Silver Bear is awesome.  It's subsonic in UZI SMG, M16 w6" upper, and a guy I shoot with M16 16" upper.  Brown Bear, copper washed and even cheeper, works too.
