I have now built two 9MM lowers and have a simular problem with both. Specifically the magazine catch does not stick out far enough into the mag well to realiably catch the magazine when it's inserted. I am using both a RRA and Hahn Precision (top loading conversion block). Of the two I'm having the most problem with the Hahn it won't catch the magazine at all. Has anyone else had this problem and/or recommendations to correct?

Where did the mag catches come from, and you do have the treads of the catches flush with the buttom faces?

You are using Colt mags, and not the cheap Knock off types?

If both of the catches are in working order and using Colt mags, check the limiting pads on them for edge burs that may be limiting their protusion into the mag well.

Yes the treads of the catches are flush with the button face.

I have used both Colt mags and the plastic ones. Actually the Colt mag will not hold at all and the plastic ones will hold sometimes and I can pull straight down with out them coming out although if I move them front and back they will often slip out.

As best I can tell there are no edge burs on the mag catches.

It really is something of a mystery

I had a similar problem with three ASA mag blocks and ended up going with two Hahns which work beautifully with all types of mags.

With the mag blocks out of the lowers, insert the magazines in to the blocks and see if they line up with the mag catch cut outs on the blocks. If they appear to line up then reinstall the blocks in to the receivers.

When you reinstall the blocks, check to see if the mag catch is protruding through the block. You may have to wiggle the blocks around a little to get the catch to come all the way through. Once that's done tighten the tensioning device on each. Then try to insert the magazines in to the well with the lower off of the upper.

I'm using a Hahn dedicated insert on the one I'm having the most problem with so go figure. I'm also using a DPMS mag catch.

When it's not under spring dension it does not appear to be binding at all. Under spring tension it just doesn't want to go through enough to catch the mag reliably. I'm beginning to think that the mag catch may just be on the short side of spec. and/or that the spring may be under powered. I've order a RRA mag catch since they sell 9MMs and might give just a little extry lengty to the mag catch and I've also ordered a new mag spring.

If I push on the mag catch from the out side it will go in enough to catch the mag. So something is happening when I put the catch under pressure with the spring.
