There is a 601 for sale over on subguns. It's not mine. There is a hole in the lower receiver that I have never seen before on any M16. Only to 231 has different pin holes as far as I know. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:
Here's a link to the rest of the pics. http://www.subguns.com/classifieds/index.cgi?db=nfafirearms&website=&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=14498&query=retrieval Again, this is not my rifle. Anyone know what that extra hole is for in the lower? Ruben says it looks factory in his ad. I have a tough time believing Colt did that. For th elife of me I can't figure out what it for though. |
| I may be totally wrong on this but I seem to have a far off memory of those holes. Used to make sure rifle could not be switched to FA - obviously. I can't recall if they were Guard rifles or just done that way for training purposes......Prior to the 16, the M14 was not as easy to get into FA so this may have been to make sure someone didn't screw up. |

I seems to recall something about this in the second edition of The Black Rifle, now I have to go look. |
| May have been a way to make sure people coudn't switch to full auto when doing an annual qualification in the AF. my parents remember everyone using the same rifle, and only being able to fire enough rounds to qualify. they were enlisted aircrew in the mid 80's. |
