Well I finally had some success with the 25-223 in the field, took a 98 lb doe on the last day of the season with 30 minutes left to hunt.
Easy neck shot at just 45 yards with an 87 grain Core-Lokt HP over Reloader 7, bullet exited through the rib cage on the opposite side. She spun around on her hind legs and was DRT. |

Does anyone make Dillon trim dies for this round? Well don't I feel stupid now... I got to thinking, and remembered I purchased a Whidden trim die in .25X.223 years ago, even remembered where I put it... |

So finally got around to shooting some aa2200, I like it. Ran a quick pressure ladder today with 70gr BK, and aa2200 ran up to 27.5gr slight pressure signs at 27. 26.5gr was 2905fps (16" barrel OG chamber), great accuracy and had an SD of 6 for 5rds. Guess I'll work up another ladder from 26-26.7 see how that fairs. |

I just had a bolt gun chambered in 25-223 put together for my son. I love my 20 inch AR chambered in 25-223. I bought a box of lapua 223 brass to fireform for my sons gun. For my AR i just sized, trimmed, and loaded up some rounds to form brass. Anyone forming brass a different way? Ive read of using pistol powder and cream of wheat but havent actually done this. Would i need to size first? Curious how others form brass. Nootay |

Nootay There's no need to reform the brass as the body of the case doesn't change. I trim the neck down, chamfer the case mouth then expand it to .25. Starting out I used a .243 expander then the .25. But with the Lapua quality brass I expand it to .25 in one step with a long tapered expander....which I don't recall where I got it or the brand. I love the 20" barrel also as it makes for a very well balanced rifle. Also helps get 87-90gr bullets up to 3,000 fps.

Same solution worked for me with the 90 GMX here jut haven't taken any deer with that bullet yet. I did hunt yesterday with the 25-223 but no luck. |

But if you’re new to this cal, you won’t be able to get barrels anymore as the guy we all got them from is MIA. I wouldn’t do the 25x45, the neck is just too long which puts the ogive of too many bullets inside the case mouth. I would say get the 25 Ocelot from Mad Dog Weapons instead. Which is basically our 25-223 but Ackley improved for more case volume. I have the 6mm version of this cartridge, called the Mongoose, and it is a very impressive little cartridge. The only kicker with these is fireforming is required. |

| I have been toying with the idea of using the 224 Valkerie case necked up to 25 to allow the use of longer bullets that we can use on this cat. I bet it would perform decently enough out of short barrels too |

Hi All, I got an email from VaFish. It is good to see that there is still interest in the cartridge. I think that I might have a couple of barrels floating around in the very back of one of my gun safes. If there are enough folks interested we could possibly put together a barrel run. Ammo and reloading components have gotten hard to get and expensive so I am not putting as much Pb downrange as I would like. I gather that I am not the only one facing this obstacle . As noted by others on this post, the 25-223Ar is ballistically similar to the 250-3000 Savage. It is an accurate soft-shooting round that kills deer like a bolt of lighting. Over that years I have collected several game shots and the wound channel that the 25-223Ar produces is quite impressive. As they say it punches way out of it's class. 320pf |

Found my 25-223 Savage barrel in the back of the safe, screwed it back onto the action and threw a straight 16x on. I have no idea when I loaded this ammo but it still wants to shoot. 10 shots 100 yards into just under 1" with 85gr Nosler ballistic tips at 2925fps. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Z2uW1tWq4vMRxPcs7 |

Good to see you're still around as I was getting concerned. I bought one of the early batches 20" w/original style chamber. Was it you who had a reamer to modify the old chamber?? IIRC it lengthened the throat.?? FWIW-- I've bought a number of bags of 25-45 from the Sharps Company when they are on sale. Pretty good deal. Probably Starline brass. Just trim the neck and you got great brass. I now have a Howa Mini in 223....after 3 solid years of searching for the right model. Its right what I'd thought would be a great walking hunting rifle if chambered in 25-223. What a sweetheart in size and balance. |

Well, I am on a depridation permit to shoot deer off of a field of Peppers, Tomatoes, Yellow Squash, and Zucchini. It's about 700 yds across and about the same wide. Was thinking my 55gr 223 may be a little weak for deer at 300 yds, so I'm going to give my 25-223 a try. :) 100gr sptz to try first... |

Has anyone tried VV N130 with the Barnes 80 grain TTSX? I have been loading that bullet with Reloder 7 but the ES numbers are twice that of N130 with a Remington 87 grain PowrLokt HP/FB. I understand that the TTSX is longer so there's not as much room in the case still curious if anyones has info on this combo. |

A back from the dead thread resurrection! Hunted maybe half a dozen times this year and only once last season because of home renovations. But I bagged a nice doe (for my area) with the 25-223 yesterday, live weight was 128 lbs. Any way made a heart / lung shot on this deer with about 20 minutes of time remaining, I was in a climbing tree stand when she along with 2 other smaller deer entered a power line cutdown from behind me less than 40 yards from my position and walked right past me. She ran maybe 50 yards and piled up inside the wood line on the opposite side of the cutdown. So only the second animal I've taken but man does this caliber deliver. Less than 100 rds through this barrel and still playing with various loads but it's a keeper for critters here in coastal South Carolina. Bullet was a Speer 87 grain Hot-Cor over some N130, in & out so I wasn't able to recover the bullet. I'll post a couple pic's later because today is the last day of our season and I gotta get ready to go again! |
