I am hoping to reduce the weight of a 20" HBAR 1:9 twist barrel from Bushmaster.  What approach would be best, fluting or turning the barrel?  Barrel prices have gone up, but gunsmithing has seemed to stay level, so it might be better to have the barrel smithed if there are not detrimental effects.

Contact ADCO, they would be the best to ask, they're the industry standard in that type of work.

H bars are nice to shoot.I would enjoy the rifle as is.  Later on buy a while new complete upper . For the difference in price it would be worth having the complete spare upper.

Its my understanding, and perhaps I am wrong, that fluting the barrel shouldn't have any adverse effect on the barrel.  Is that true,.

Done properly fluting the barrel should not harm it.
