Has anyone out there heard anything about a new/renewed supply of RELIABLE 20 to 30 rd 7.62X39 mags for us 7.62X39 AR shooters? I've been using the reliable, but low capacity, mags offered by Model 1 Sales, but a lot of us out here still long to be able to go head-to-head with our 'smaller cousins' (5.56mm) in the AR family. Anybody?  hinking.gif

Thanks in advance!

Supposedly DPMS is selling a "franken mag", I'm working on becomeing a DPMS dealer and will offer them for sale on the EE if they do have them.

DPMS no longer has them on their website, so I wonder if they are still making them?

I contacted DPMS a while back & they indicated that they no longer had a source for their  'Frankenmag' and they were not sure if were going to be able to locate a new one.  Thank you William Jefferson "The Zipper" Clinton and your so-called Assault Weapon Ban!

I stand corrected, I looked into it and DPMS nolonger has 'em. (as stated above) I had seen "DPMS" "Franken mags" through another dealer, but I noticed he says "back ordered indefinatly", so I looked into it.

I had some on order with DPMS for about 6 months I called them the other day and they said that they are no longer going to have any of the franken mags. I'm glad I got a few while I could. Looks like it will be a gun show hunting item from here on out.

The DPMS mags don't work

any more than 7 or so 7.62x39 rounds needs a curved mag so you won't see ar pattern mags working at 20 and up capacity

and well a Lever Gun has that much capacity so

Thermomold at one time made a very reliable mag for the Ruger's mini30, as well as for the AR15. While Promag appears to have reproduced the AR15 and Mini14 types, they don't seem to have any interest in re-introducing these magazines in the 7.62X39 round. Email them and see what they say.

Will 6.8 rem mags work for the 7.62?

6.8s don't work

the fact that 7.62 ars don't work is one of the main reasons why 6.8 came about

do this exercise if you don't belive me

take 10 7.62x39 rounds out and lay them out as if in a mag

notice how much gap is present toward the front of the bullets ?

the 7.62x39 round is tapered pretty heavily and this would be the reason why AK mags are curved from the start

the depth of the magwell on ARs is why they can't work

Hey I've got one too and yeah I'm kicking myself too

Anybody know if a 6.5 Grendel mag will work?  I don't know if there is too much difference in the taper, but Alexander Arms has a 24 round mag coming out soon.

The DPMS mags were the franken mag type mag that were a ak47 mag lower welded to an ar15 type tower  and yes they do  work with a full 30 rounds just hard to find now.

The AR magwell is straight. 7.62X39 magazines need to be curved, due to the shape of the cartridge. There is an AR-47 lower built to use AK mags that has an AK mag compatable magwell. It's the only solution I've seen that has been properly engineered to work with an AR upper. Modifications to the upper and bolt carrier are required.

I know USA mags usually have a bad rep, but are their 30 round 7.62x39 AR mags any good at all? These are made like the Frankenmag, a AR mag top part welded to an AK bottom part.
