I am interested in building my first AR-15 this summer. I will be buying the gun in pieces, more then likely i am first going to buy a complete upper from RRA. i want to go with open sites from the start because i wont be able to afford a scope for a few months after the gun is ready to be shot. but i definatly will put a scope on it in the future. i want the gun basically for the range and some varmant hunting so i dont want it to be that heavy. i was thinking a FF barrel in the 16 to 18 inch range. can some one give me some opinions in a complete upper from RRA with good sites to start off with. and also is it a good idea to buy the gun in pieces and should i buy the upper first.

please advise

I would buy your first upper completely assembled. I would also recommend getting a flattop upper, you could use detachable or flip-up sights until you get your scope. Mounting a scope on a fixed A2 handle can make them a little high and uncomfortable for some people, mounting them on flattops is much easier.

It's a good idea to buy the gun in pieces if you know what you're doing, and plan on buying quality parts. Buy the upper complete though.

RRA actually sells rifle kits where you only have to buy the lower.

+1. Forgot to mention that. Definitely get an A3 flat-top if you plan on mounting a scope in the future. It leaves endless possibilities for optic setups.

i like those RRA varmint uppers the only thing is they are more the likly heavy because of that bull barrel

You could probably get them to free-float a standard barrel, most manufacturers are pretty good about special orders like that. RRA seems to have great customer service from what I've seen, it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

Yeah they probably have a little bit of weight to them but it's kind of hard to mix a range toy with a varmint hunter.

Mid-Length A4, chrome-lined, do it up.

It looks like they DO offer it with a free float handguard, you should be all good.

Yes, it makes it more corrosion resistant, and in my experience easier to clean the bore.

Yes, you can get a detachable carry handle, or a flip-up like the ARMS or GG&G. RRA also offers it with a flat-top gas block and flip-up front sight it looks like.

how much do good front and rear sites run? because i want to know how much this gun is going to run me. becuase just for the chrome barrel midlength a-4 full upper its like 490$
