Many of us seem to be converging onto a variation of the "general purpose" recon/ scout/ SPR AR, allowing CQB, snap shots at 50m, and 4" groups at 400.

What are the pros and cons of a 16" vs. 18" barrel for a general-purpose lightweight AR15?
1. How much maneuverability is given up going with an 18”?
2. How much long range potential is given up going with a 16"?
3. What are the pros and cons of the 16" gas block location vs. the full length one typically found on the 18" barrels?

thanks

As somebody who owns one of each, the differences are:

- having the 18" is a little unique and it's an easy way of neutering a pre-ban barrel for use on a post-ban rifle.

- the 16" is much easier to find and will generally be cheaper.
