I used to have a TA31. Eye relief was bad and it felt quite heavy. I certainly want something smaller, but I do like the ranging abilities of an ACOG.

I’m wondering if a TA44 could work for 400 yards, but I hear from some that it’s a lot like an Aimpoint (just with drop lines). Maybe I can’t push it that far. I’m currently running irons.

Any advice on what I should go with?

TA33 fixes most of the 4x ACOG shortcomings, but you do sacrifice FOV.

TA31s also aren’t very heavy.  You may want to reevaluate your expectations there.

if you'll mostly be shooting 77gr take a look at a 308 reticle , they seem to match up better than a 5.56 reticle meant for lighter pills

run it through a ballistics calculator to see how close the drops will be

If you consider ta31s heavy I'm not sure what to tell you

The TA45 has better eye relief. If you can find one with the red triangle the tip of the triangle is very useful at 400 yards once you get everything sorted out.
