I was shopping around for a 10.5" barrel. I had a local dealer tell me that there is no such thing as a 10.5" barrel, they are all 11.5".

I asked him why I had seen a lot of guns on this site with 10.5" barrels, and his reply was, its all in how you measure. He told me that an 11.5" is really only a 10.5" measured without the flash hider on it, and with the FH its 11.5".

So following that logic, the barrels Bushmaster sells that are cataloged as 11.5" are really 10.5"?

Or do I just need some more medication?

Your dealer is a goof.

10.25" barrels are readily available, as are 11.5".

Yikes! I hope he doesn't read this.

Just as I thought.

LMT, DPMS and Oly seem to prefer 10.5. Bushmaster makes an 11.5. Colt makes both, IIRC.

CMMG Sells them both also (good pics of each too).

I have both, the 10.5" is exactly 1" shorter than the 11.5".

I saw an older bushmaster that a guy had bought back in the eighties that was actually 10 inches.  It worked with XM193 at least, I don't know that he shoots anything else.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the response.

But I don't see any ten inchers on the CMMG page.

Bushmaster used to manufacture 10.5" barrels. The 10.5" barrels they sold did not have a bayonet lug, while I believe the 11.5" barrels had the option of having a bayonet lug.

I have a Bushmaster 11.5/5.5 fixed flash hider barrel and it works great. And it has a bayonet lug.
