I have a shooter AR that I want to refinish in either Urban or Chocolate Chip (6 color) camo.

I found a site once but lost it,  that had an excellent example of the Chocolate Chip (almost exactly like the BDU pattern) and thats just what I want.  I also want something that will take a little abuse.

I would appreciate any leads you can give me.

... I just finished one in three-color, what do you think of it?

Link Posted: 5/2/2003 9:41:09 PM EDT
That looks pretty good.  What did you use on it?  I've been thinking of painting my SPR, but I haven't decided yet.  I'd like to do it myself to make sure it gets done the way I want it.

What does it cost for a finish like that?
How long of a wait?
Does it have a Rough or Smooth finish?
Link Posted: 5/3/2003 10:57:55 AM EDT
goto SAS armory website..so i dont have hotlink..but they have diff. prices for diff. types of finish..this particular one was bout 250bux, but i had other stuff done as well.it is smooth finish..life time guarantee to original owner..turn around is 7-10 days from time he gets it..they do super good work and it looks much better in person..
woohoo link works.. steve is real easy to talk to and explains things well..

You guys that pay money to have people paint your weapons for you are killing me.
The basic Marine Sniper course teaches all of its student how to paint their guns. Trust me, it's very easy.

Trust me guys, you would not believe what you can do with Bowflage or plain flat enamel spray paint.

Use Bowflage if you like to change the colorations as the seasons change, etc etc.
Use flat enamel for a more durable finish.
If your finish starts to get roughed up, just buy some acetone, remove or protect your optics, and get a few sponges. The paint can be easily removed with the acetone and a sponge.

To practice your color schemes and patterns, just get some wood 2x4s and go at it.
Get things like fern leaves, mesh laundry bags, mesh netting or anything your imagination can produce. Lay them over your weapon or hold them over it with your hand. When you spray, the leaves or other objects leave great patterns on the weapon.

Make sure to tear off small strips of masking tape and cover any small details you dont want painted such as scope turret dials, ejection ports or what have you. Also if your barrel has no type of compensator or the like on the end of it, be sure to plug the muzzle with a foam ear plug.

Dont blow big cash paying some dork to paint a weapon when you will just scratch it up over time and have to pay the money all over again.

Learn to do it yourself. We snipers all do.
If you want a step by step list of what to do. Email me and I will help you out.

welp not tryin to start any wars here..but i have yet see a home-made paint job look as good as mine..and yes ya have sum valid points..as far as refinishing, i have life time guarantee.so i dont care if it gets scratched or not..

More bowflage at work,

AR10 A4,

Bushy 20in

Love that it is indeed removable, patterns can be changed at the drop of a hat without worrying about paint build up.    The stuff comes off pretty easy too when you use mineral spirits or acetone.    It's not the most durable stuff though, it scratches or gets nicked pretty easily but then that's the trade off of having it be easily removable.

Everyone of you have some pretty cool looking guns and you should all be proud of them.

For all of you with krylon and masking tape guns.....I've been there and done that on several of mine.  Although I cant post any pics....believe me when I say.....I AM NO ARTIST  [>0]  I've got one rifle I have repainted probably 15 times, and I am still not happy.  Not because I am hard to please, but just because I suck.

Anyway....what I am looking for is pretty much an exact pattern match of the 6 color Chocolate Chip desert camoflage.  I saw one posted on here once before and it was just beautiful.   I WANT IT  :-)

So....Thanks again to all of you
