I have not shot it yet but just looking at it and taking measurements with calipers everything checks out great. I got some AK's chambered in 5.45 so I got some ammo laying around, both surplush and Wolf. I usually do not shoot corrosive out of my 5.45 Ak-105 because it is all steel and I do not feel like cleaning the crap out of it every time I shoot it. However I plan on using mostly corrosive stuff in this AR. :) I figured I am just going to trow the rifle in a tub of hot water, shake it out and go from there since most of the expensive stuff on it is aluminum........ |

Using MGI lower w/ RDIAS.
Barrel is Chrome Lined Bulgarian AK74 that has been headspaced for the AR/M16 platform.

As mentioned in my picture, BarrelXchange.
I'm one of the beta testers of it. They are modified AK-47 drums. I got about 40 rounds in full auto out of it. It is having some minor issues and I sent it back for some more tweaking. It is almost there. I'm looking forward to getting it back. |

Got my Adams 5.45 x 39 upper yesterday and mounted on S & W Lower with RRA 2 stage trigger and heavy hammer spring. Couldn't wait to take to range today and put 100 rounds of Russian surplus thru it without missing a stroke...CP Mags. Shot at 50 yards from a bipod and 4x Millet Scope and grouped about 1 inch. I think the accuracy potential would even be better with a bench rest and better ammo. I need to invest in a lead sled or something like it to do a true test of accuracy using quality ammo. Inpected rifle for crud build-up when I got home. Piston carbon wiped right off with a rag. The bolt & carrier area looks pretty clean with only a small amount of red primer sealer on the bolt face. My S & W upper has corrosion on the bolt shaft. That's my fault for not dissassembling for cleaning. I may leave this baby uncleaned for a while to see if there is any sign of corrosion. The chamber looks fairly dirty and I'm wondering how many rounds can be fired without sticking in chamber. Every AR that I own has some sort of problem with Laquered or polymer coated shells sticking in the chamber after about 100 rounds fired. That's why I moved to the dark side with AK's to shoot this stuff but the accuracy sucks. I think I'm going to shoot several hundred rounds thru it this upper to see how long it will run without sticking problem. Waiting for an Ergo Z Float Rail to arrive...paid about $145.00 for it. I think I'm really going to grow to like this upper. If this sucker works out, I may invest in AA piston kits for some other AR's. The Ergo Z Float rail came in today

I mentioned the drum earlier and now got a video on it: Link to video Again, drum is by BarrelXchange. I don't work for BarrelXchange or have any affiliation, just a happy customer! Currently this drum is only for AK-74's or if you have an MGI lower or modified AR-47. He did tell me that the next step was to make an AR tower for this drum. |

I don't know if I want to flute that barrel. It might look wierd if you just to the porting in front of the GL cut. |

ETA-how much does the Mega weigh ? Im not sure. I do not have a scale that can measure it down to oz. However this rifle weigh more then my Saiga 5.45 by a pound or two. I must say the monolithic upper is awsome and feels light weight. The only thing that I would want different would be a lighter stock.. This UBR is HEAVY!!!! I would say it weigh 1/3 of the total rifle weight. However I like the look of it and how it functions. So I am going to stick with it for a while untill I change my mind. |

Why put a break that's not a suppressor mount on a fighting rifle that has so many options for quality flash hiders? Not saying your wrong, It's just not my cup of tea. |

First 10 or so to sight in my Eotech then another 10 or so to test it out to 100 yds. (shoots 2-3" groups) but I was shooting unsupported, standing up. Then the rest of it I dumped down the range at a 50yd target.. Not one FTF, FTE. Everything works smooth as butter. I have no recoil or muzzle climb with this huge brake... My club has a no rapid shoothing policy so I could not dump the whole mag in one run, but instead did 5-10 rd bursts. (Still had some people stare at me. ) Then I compared this to my Saiga 5.45 and GSG-5. I would say it has the same if not less recoil then my GSG-5 (22lr) and deffenetly waaay less then the saiga. I think I found me a new favorite rifle!!

Did a few changes so far.
Replaced the fixed front sight with a flip up, swapped AFG for a Troy VFG, Swapped modular rail MTS-320 for a quad rail MTS-300. (My friend is a proud owner of the MTS-320 that I had before) Im still not done, I decided to go with a gas piston set up, so I need to get a mid length barrel, but cant find a source for one yet. New flash hider andI will replace the JP Tactical Bolt carrier with Adams Arms bolt carrier that comes with the kit. And I am also changing the furniture to FDE.

(he couldnt find a receiver extension wrench )As it sits now: M&P-15 upper and lower MOE stock I Kick Hippies SLAP plate MOE grip Matech rear BUIS Troy TRX Extreme 13" MOE RVG Primary Arms Gen2 Micro dot and soon to come is the front sight. Either gonna grab a folder, or a fixed DD. Thanks. |

Got my Spike's upper to the range (finally).
Ran it with a Springco 10% extra power action spring, the Spike's buffer and the 'enhanced' follower magazine, and 4 stock CProduct mags. Had one bolt override failure with one Cproduct mag, and one with the enhanced follower mag. Switched to a standard power action spring, and had no bolt overrides with the Cproducts, still had them with the enhance follower magazine. Zero went fine and dandy, very accurate with the surplus ammo. Recoil felt nearly identical to my 5.56 20" A2 upper. I think I found my new favorite caliber/rifle combination for general purpose use. That said, does anybody else have issues with the enhanced follower that came with the Spike's upper? Here's some comparison pictures to the CProduct mags (original followers), with and without ammo from various angles. Let me know if yours look the same or different, and if you have any failures/jams with them. Thanks! Difference in angle that the cartridge sits at:

Bear in mind that I did wipe/clean all mags, and they were all ran dry, no liquids inside of them at all. Changing to a standard action spring gave 100% reliability with the factory CProduct mags. |

Anyone here have the new spikes upper AND a S&W? I'm curious to see how they compare.... I'm thinking of picking up a spikes to "leave the hell alone, and just shoot" - And then chopping my s&w down to 10.5 Even though last post I definitely said I was done re-configuring it.  |

Honestly, I'm pretty sure the current batch that's being ran has some tooling problems. I always get problems on the right feed lip. Never the left. Upon further inspection, the left feed lip rides the contour of the cartridge case the whole length until it stops. On the right side, it rides it and then curls upwards for approximately 1/4 of an inch. This is on ALL of the magazines, including the replacements sent from CProducts.
An interesting thing to note is that when the magazine is loaded, the angle of the cartridge is different from the left feed lip to the right. The following series is loading rounds 1 through 4. Notice the change in pitch.    
Here's my best attempt at getting a picture of the feed lip description. 
Left side, full contact. You can make out an upwards curvature at the end of the right feedlip from the glare, starts slightly behind the small stamped reinforcement notch. 
Right side, partial contact. Plain as day. I then took two of my problem mags and hacked down yellow Magpul 5.56 followers to fit in the mag bodies. This is the same series of photos, with a different follower. Notice how the pitch of the cartridge is consistant from the right to the left feed lips.    
Left side feed lip, full contact. 
Right side feed lip, partial contact. I highly doubt that this is a design feature, given how in every other magazine I've ever seen the feed lips are symetrical, and the AR was designed to feed from two stacks, not one and then later modified for two. I'd give my hand at bending with needle nose pliers, but I only have five mags, and don't want to break a feed lip. |
