Over four years, 7,000 rounds, and five configurations later I'm finally content with calling my go to rifle finished.

I've owned and built many AR's over the years but this is the one I've done the majority of my learning on. In the time I've owned it my personal preferences have changed and I've had a lot of hands on experience with different parts and configurations. After 4 years of use this is what I've settled with.

Specs:

Upper: ARFCOM billet.
Rail: Daniel Defense MFR XS 13.5".
Barrel: Daniel Defense 16", carbine length, M4 profile.
Muzzle Device: Lantau Dragon.
Bolt: Sharps Reliabolt.
Iron Sights: Magpul MBUS Pros.
Optic: Trijicon TA44 in Larue mount.
Flashlight: Surefire M300C.

Lower: ARFCOM Billet.
Trigger: Geissele SSA-E.
Stock: Magpul STR.

Previous configurations in order from first to most recent:

It's the Raptor charging handle. It's sold by a few different companies and yes it's ambi.

Interesting choice with the Ta44, I don't see many of them around here.

I never took much interest in them and didn't see them very often. After finally trying one I'd take it over high end red dots any day. And that's coming from someone who's owned Aimpoint T2's, Trijicon MRO's, Trijicon RMR's, Trijicon RX34's, and had a lot of experience with Aimpoint Comp models. The TA44 has very clear glass, a crisp and bright reticle, and it's guaranteed to work in any situation. Even if your tritium dies and your fiber optic tube is broken it still has an etched reticle so it will show up black.

Very nice. Extra cool points for the TA44.

I like it.. a lot. Great looking rifle. Those little TA44s are becoming more and more interesting and appealing to me. Since it is a 1.5x, how do you feel it is up close? As quick on target as those other red dots you mentioned?

Thanks! And it doesn't bother me at all up close. I look through it indoors all the time and can transition from one spot to another without any issues. The magnification seems to be much less noticable up close and more noticable at long ranges (100+ Yards) where it's really needed. I recommend at least picking one up in a gun store and taking a look through it.

It is Magpul OD Green Cerakote. They have a deal with Magpul to produce matching formulas of all their colors.

Man, I gotta' quit buying cheap stuff. It all works but could probably build something nice like that if I quit clicking on all of these "sale" emails... Nice stuff OP.

Very nice, it should serve you well.

One question, why did you go with carbine gas instead of a mid-length? I'm not one of those "mid everything" types but many here are so I'm interested in your thoughts on this.

BTW, most of my stuff is carbine gas.

Well to be honest I'm a mid-length over carbine kind of guy too. Just so happens every time I had a little extra money I put it towards other parts. I'd like to eventually replace my barrel with a Daniel Defense mid-length. I'm debating on whether I want another 16" or 14.5" and M4 profile or or light weight... so technically I guess you could say the rifle isn't finished yet. But I think it's found it's over all configuration. Everything from here on is just small tweaks.

Love my Arfcom billet upper\lower but with a LaRue rail and UBR stock. Barrel is DD midlength 1-7".

nice build OP.

liking the Ta44

that's the next optic I want to try, just can't seem to get my tight ass to squeak out a G to buy one with a mount. I always start another build or buy another gun before pulling the trigger.

I've seen a few in the $750 range with Larue mount on Armslist. May be worth looking into.

Very similar to mine. Except the optic, I am poor and cant afford an Acog.

DDM4V5 with a Geissle SD-3G trigger. Furniture is Foliage green rather than OD though.

The more I look at the ar15.com billet receiver sets the more I like them.  Does anybody know who the manufacturer of these are?

Agreed. I've debated many times on picking one up.

I know they share the Magpul design but not sure who the MFG is.

Thanks! I didn't do the paint myself though, I had it painted at a local shop.
