What is the general consensus of using carbon in AR-15's?  Bushmaster says their Carbon 15 upper & lower receivers are 40% lighter / stronger than their aluminum counterparts.  What are the positive and negatives?

Thank-you in advance of your objective advice.

I had started another thread on this here: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=260817

My opinion of these is that they are quite good.

I like mine quite a bit as well.  If you dig the carbon, then it's for you.  Otherwise it's just another AR15.

My opinion=Good.

Light weight.
No reliability issues so far after 3000 rounds.

This is my first AR. It is fun to shoot and very light weight (even w/ accessories)  I have put 2000+ rounds through it and have had two jams.  The only complaint I have is that it does't have a dust cover.

Is it possible to buy a lower for a build?

They sell stripped lowers in the Bushmaster catalog.

My first AR is this Carbon 15:

So far, I've got a couple thousand through it without a hitch.  Yes, you could build for less $$ but it would weigh more.  The upper I just put together (Troy ff rail, 16" m4 raa barrel, CMT upper and bolt) feels like it weighs the same or maybe even more than the whole Carbon 15.  It is reliable, handles well and I do not regret buying it for an instant.

The only thing I don't like is the colored in F and S.  I think only a lawyer would like that.
