You must be referring to the recoil spring assembly locking button.  It is the little button in the upper right hand corner of the receiver. The receiver cover is notched out for it. Depress the button and push the recoil assembly forward.

I wonder why the Yugo RPKs don't have that little button.  I like the idea of having it.

Yugo RPKs don't launch grenades.

Why would that make a difference?  I thought the button was there just so that it is more difficult to take off the top cover?  Anyway, thanks for the info.

Launching a little over 1-1/3rd pound projectile a little less than 200 yards from your 7-1/3 pound rifle tends to be a fairly violent action. Watch some videos of it being done. (With real grenades not just practice ones)

Sounds good.  That makes more sense.  Thanks for the info!

Thanks.

to take the cover off press the button from left to right. take the rear cover off inspect, clean, finger it, do whatever tickles your pickle, put cover back on and push that same button  from right to left and your done.

I have actually learned to like the retainer button lock... It means I don't have to mar up the knurling on the retainer button when reassembling it.
