Last I heard they slipped to January 04.  My understanding was also that they plan to sell them through some big name distributor (not yet released).

They're building it on their own production receiver, which is also supposed to be available for sale this fall (winter?).  It has the 1.6mm RPK specs, and supposedly the selector hole will be in the right place too.

I want one.. But what is the deal with Arsenal USA/Globals's reputation. Are there rifles good? They sure look sweet...

I've held off on buying an AK-74 waiting for this one to come out.  I wish they would hurry.

Global announced that their 74 will not be available until December or January.  My guess would be March or April of 04.

They will not offer their US receivers by themselves until they have produced several complete rifles.

Their US made receiver will be 1.6mm thick sheet metal, so it will basically be an RPK.  These receivers will also be hardened(heat treated) properly.

I hope these receivers are going to be the real deal when they are released, and a good alternative to the OOW.

Rumor has it that Global may have plans for a 308 in the future.

I read that Lew Horton will be the distributor.  Which might suck due to the fact that they only sell to FFL holders(I think).  So no ordering at wholesale price and ship to my ffl.

You have that right.  If you are not the FFL, they do not want to know you and your FFL has to have a tax resale certificate or they will not deal with him either.

Best way to buy from Global is to go to their warehouse in Houston (address on ad) and buy direct from them.

I am not sure but I think I remember Harlan saying something about them......I know I was hoping that FAC was going to handle them anyway...

I have been waiting and waiting too. I am glad I got one of the ~last~ Sar 2's in the meantime.

(edited)...I was thinking about ArsenalInc's "S" series I think, I was hoping they would be in 5.45x39 instead of 5.56x45......nevermind....

I have also heard that Interstate Arms would be a main distributor for them. They were the main one for their SSR-99 & K-101's............so maybe it holds water:)

Anyhows, this was what Jimmy Streetman of Arsenal USA had to say about it some time back:

"We currently have two distributors lined up, Lew Horton and Interstate Arms."

Oooohhhhh,

It’s looking more and more like I’m going to need some 5.45 rifles.

Any idea how much?

I only saw Plateshooter's gun after it was right, and it was very nice when done. It also shot very accurately. For the quality of the parts/finish at their price, I may still give them a try if I can look it over first like a SAR.
But regardless of a mfg overall avg, nothing sucks like a gun that shoots way off or refuses to run right. Like fixing the windage on a G3 clone, grrrr...

please god, let them build it on an f.e.g. receiver.

AMEN !!

If I can get one with the FEG receiver, I will buy !!
My SSR85B is a great AK and one of the best looking and shooting rifles I have ever owned.
