Hi all, I have a folding WASAR and wooden stock WASAR. I am looking for accessories. I dont know too much about AK's and looking for  suggestions for rail optic mounts and magpul type furniture to add lights/optics. I am confused what will fit the WASR as I see sooo.. many accessories made by so many companies.
With the following fit my WASR:
Magpul™ Zhukov-S Stock
Magpul MOE AK Hand Guard
http://www.primaryarms.com/utg-pro-quick-detachable-ak-side-mount-mtu016
What is a good rail for optics that wont break the bank? I dont want garbage but just a few things to dress them up for range use.
I also have a Nodak spud build that is decked out but want optic rail.

Is there a resource guide that will tell me what rails/accessories will fit what AK's?

Sorry for the vague questions but seems like thee are so many products out there to fit specific models of AK's

Thanks in advance!!

The Magpul™ Zhukov-S Stock fits my WASR just fine.  I don't like the Magpul MOE AK Hand Guard and stay with a standard polymer lower handguard (KVAR) but a Ultimak AK "scout" mount Model M1-B gas tube rail setup.  Ultimak M1-B

Aside from Russian optic mounts I also like the Midwest Industries AK Side Railed Scope Mount. MI AK side railed scope mount

Optics will break the bank and great combinations are limited and pricey. I recommend leaving your rifle alone and enjoying for what it is.
Otherwise, I hear the Attero + aimpoint is great, but I'm using RS Regulate with AKOG and TA50.
Ultimak is also highly recommended and would be great for an Aimpoint + light combo.

Regarding a light setup, I haven't found anything good yet. I have a Manticore keymod rail + elzetta cbq but it's uncomfortably tight and not good. Ultimak with offset is probably the best bet. I don't like extended rails although you might.

For lights, there is the RS Products light mount, which I haven't tried.  I have tried a couple of offset mount/Ultimak combos - some of it depends on how much you care about your front sight being all lit up by your flashlight.  I hate it, so the Vltor mount/Ultimak combo didn't last long.  The Haley Thorntail/Ultimak combo lasted a little longer - it put the front of the light just about dead even with the front sight.  That setup, though, seemed to be begging for something to get caught up between the light/mount and barrel.

So now one of the AKs has a Zhukov handguard with a rail section up front - but I haven't had any time to play around with it to see how the light setup works.

Good point about the barrel clamp light mounts. I had ignored them since the ones I saw were questionable amazon style (cheap and unknown), but I trust RS and am thinking of trying that now.

I've got an AK that is destined to have some RS gear, including the light mount.  When time, funds, and higher priorities permit.

Just remember that the Zhukov handguard requires you to cut off the handguard retainer.
