Took the Tigr out today, with some of the Extra match ammo. This ammo had 7.9 cm listed on the tin. Supposedly that is for 10 shots, at 300 yards.  Used a bipod on the receiver, and an 8x Pro scope. Temperature was around 30 - 35 F, elevation 6300 feet. Performed initial zero at 25 yards, then 100 yards.  Moved to the 300 yard range for final zero. It took 8.5 moa adjustment to achieve a 300 yard zero, from 100 yards.  At 600 yards it took 12.5 moa to get there. Only fired one group at this range. It was 13.5 inches. Moved to 800 yards, it took 25 moa to reach that range. Had a 12.5 inch and a 20.5 inch group.  Pics:

Backed up to the 1000 yard line. It took 40 moa from the 300 yard zero, to reach 1000 yards.  Groups were 36 to 39 inches.

Test rig setup:

Yep, that little white square out there is the target.

Dope
300 yard zero
600 yards = 12.5 moa
800 yards = 25.0 moa
1000 yards = 40 moa

Looks like this round is good to 800 yards.  Maybe 900 yards?  Didn't shoot at that range today.  At 1000 yards, it really opens up.  Seems like I've shot sub 30 inch groups at 1000 with Wolf White box ammo? Will have to shoot them side by side.

Anyway, had a great time slinging lead today....

Damn that is a lllooonnngggg shot :-)

I just took some Extra out in my PU Sniper at a 100yrd. I got a 1.25" five shot group. Here's the thread:

http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?270765-Russian-Mfg-7-62-x-54R-Match-Target&p=2400850#post2400850

200g Extra is really good ammo, and as I understand it the ammo is designed for 300 and 600 meter competitions.... and I've read from at least one source that accuracy is optimized for that range. I'd expect that this means that accuracy beyond 600m (and shorter than 300m) may not be optimal with this load.  That's a heavy bullet to be using in an SVD. Do you have an adjustable gas block?

Also it's not clear from your photos, but what are you calling a 'group'? Three shots or 5 shots? I can get 3 shots into a 'quarter-sized' group pretty commonly at 100yrds. I can't do that with 5 shots. I'm going out again on Friday to try again, this time at 300yrd and with my barrel 'wrapped' at the forward handguard retainer. I'm hoping I can turn in an honest 1MOA 5 shot group at 300yrd.

Thanks for that dope, that will help me if I ever get a chance to shoot this thing at 600yrd.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, it's nice to see what the Tigr is capable of. It's been a while since I have fired at long range targets with my M14 SSR and M118LR ammo. I wasn't shooting for groups, had to get minimum target hits out to 1,000 yards  to pass the course at Ft. Benning.

A 12.5 to 20.5 group at 800 yards is some good shooting, definitely torso hits as the width of a average mans shoulder is 19 inches. What's the power of the optic and wind value? I'm sure the  difference between M118LR and 54r is nil when it comes to the effects of wind.

I don't get too obsessed with accuracy and from what I have read, the Tigr looks promising for long range shooting. Just one more year until I have the funds together for a Tigr!

No adjustable gas block on the Tigr . These are 5 round groups. Hoped the bullet holes were visible.  Scope is an 8x,  had 2.5 moa of wind dialed in at 1000 yards.

That is excellent shooting. 1000 yards is considerably harder than it's given credit for and to me that is some damn nice shooting. I do ok out to 700m but past that physics often puts a beat down on me.

Well done Hill, looks great

Thanks Zen. Had a good time seeing what this ammo would do.
