Does anyone have specs on WASRs? I want to know if the receiver is properly heat treated. My front trunion is stamped 1988...is this true? Did the Romys still produce the AK in '88?

Unless the trigger and hammer axis holes are starting to look like an egg shape, it is likely properly heat treated.

They still produce them.

The WASRs are made from demilled rifles that are rebuilt on new receivers. The original rifle that your WASR used to be was built in 1988.

The receivers are made in the same factory that all Romanian AKs are made in, and I have never heard of a single problem with heat treating on them.

The problems you hear with AKs and heat treating almost always, always rise from rifles built from kits in this country. It's possible that out of the millions of rifles built in foreign arsenals, maybe a few aren't properly heat treated, but it's nothing you should ever be concerned about.
