I've got an SAR-1 on the way in 7.62X39 (obviously)

It only comes with what I assume is one romanian 30 round mag.

I'd like to get a good mag pouch and 3 or 4 mags.

What mags work the best? (what country of manufacture?)

I like the look of the bulgarian waffle mags but have only seen the real bulgarian ones in 5.45 so far... and they were pricy...

What about US made mags?

are they any good or hit and miss?

Anyone got a few spare good condition 30 rnd mags and a right side hanging (east german I think?) mag pouch they'd like to sell?

Don't waste your time or money on American AK mags.

Military AK mags from any Eastern Bloc Country are good, stay away from any aftermarket mag. Some People do show a preference toward Russian,Bulgarian,East German or Polish AK mags but I really have'nt noticed a nickels worth of difference between any of them.

Bulgy waffle mags are my favorite. Second is the Polish black polymer mags. I just bought a bunch of the Polish mags at a show for $12.00 NIW.

Stick with communist made mags. Stay away from US made.

Other than that buy lots of them cheap. 4 is not enough you need at least 8!

I think I have enough mags and drums.....

I can buy a 1000 rd case of ak47 ammo and have around 400 rounds left after I refill all the mags and drums again.

Get's expensive though.

I'd like a 75-100 round drum eventually.

Right now just some 30 rounds should do..

I'm going to do some shopping and see if I can get a deal on some steel mags and a pouch...

Anyone know where to find a good deal on mags and mag pouches?

I like the "personal preference" above.. I'd like one of each of the polymer mags and a stack of good steel mags with a few of the magazine clips to clip two together.

+1.  I prefer the Bulgarian mags, but maybe that's just 'cause I have more of 'em.  All the ComBloc AK mags are good to go.

absolute junk!!!  its a crap shoot what you will get...ive only gotten one or two fairly good mags out of several pouches, I have had mags from them with bubbling paint and some are dented so bad the follower won't go down half way

I got all excited and bought a Chinese 75 rd drum last year.  I think I used it once.  It's pretty much just novelty.  I guess I should sell it.

Well Thats a dissappointment!

I may get one set just to get a good pouch....

Were most of them just cosmetic paint issues?

I'm a whiz with a can of krylon..hy.gif

I'd call back and raise hell if I got non functional mags out of a set like that....

K another question.... where can I find new in baggie 7.62X39 Steel (or other) Mags that arent US made?

even if the price isn't the best I want the best I can get. No sense in buying that package deal if I get a good pouch and crappy mags.

I gonna call you on that. It's an AK mag how bad can it be?

Did you return them???

Here's my experience:
---------------------
Since u's guys missed out on the sportsman's guide deal-- 10 mags for $30 (I hope they come through). Clearview has the best deal. I just received 8 from the Clearview deal. Finish on 4 (mixed) was aweful, no rust but not much finish either. I repainted them with dollar store matte black paint. Finally got them out to the range, last weekend. 1 wouldn't lock in w/o lots of effort and then wouldn't release. One other one wouldn't release.  So 6 for 8 is not that bad. Hell they are still cheaper than AR mags!! Gotta figure they are probably 20 or 30 years old.

My 2 bad ones, need a little polishing, but I can live with that. All the other 6 worked flawlessly.

What's nice about these is you don't

i just tried to sift through my boxes, there is no way I can find it
I'm telling you though it looked as though a center punch had been driven twenty times into the side of it and all the mags had either no finish or black gloss krylon over rust
I got a return authorization, which was only the day's date, but I never sent it in...too much trouble for one mag out of hundreds

One chi/combloc mag??

Kylon over rust?? That's a problem? Strip em!! Buff em off and refinish em yourself!!

Hell the best deal I found awhile ago was polish mags that were rust under paint. They work great! I think I paid $4 a mag for them from tapco, 2 years ago. If I was so inclined I would refinish them myself.

I'm going to be blatently honest here...
This internet crap has gotten out of hand. Maybe you should go buy a FAL or HK so you can get $3 mags and realize that you can toss (trash) the ones that don't work.

Now that Sportsman's Guide is sold out, show me the better deal out there.

if you are going for sheer numbers to refinish you really can't get any better

I ended up with 4 polish poly mags from the EE for 67.50 shipped with a 4 mag pouch..

I'm going to pick up another 3 steel polish mags for 15.99 each to get me up to 8 mags...

should be enough to shoot for a while without reloading :)
