I have about 3000 rounds through my precious sam-7.  On the top part of the reciever where the bolt carrier slides back and forth on some of the finish has worn/flaked off.  I figure it's inevitable and won't hurt any thing.  I guess I just want reassurance my baby is fine.  So it's normal right??  I guess all painted type finishes will flake in certain areas eventually.

Yep normal ware, I've seen pictures of the early SAM-7's that had alot more ware than yours after 3K rounds. If you concerned you could have it refinished with with KG Gun-Kote and K-phos or send it to www.gunfinish.com Both are self lubricating, the difference is that the Stealth-tech is apllied via a thermal dip (solution) which may hold up better than the spray on bake on types and it's $110 for a gun with 30 parts or less, you'll be hard pressed to find some one that can do a spray on finish at that price.

unless yo are talking about a plasma sprayed on carbide coating, man has not yet invented a reasonable finish that a gun won't take back off!

Perfectly normal, just keep shooting it.
