Well, when we were moving, my AK was in a foam-lined plastic case.  When I got to the new house, there was rust up ahead of the front sight on part of the block where the gas tube runs (is it the trunnion?).  Need advice on how to remove with out damaging finish.  On that note, the finish looks weak.  Any recommendations on finishes?

Also...the bore has some blue streaks.  I think my dad used copper remover without removing it or all of the copper.  Unfortunately, it was shot before being noticed.  Could this be a prob?

Hmm...I take it SAR-1s don't have a good finish.  Even my WWII era M1 Carbine didn't have rust.  It was in a similar case.

Don't worry,it's just surface rust.Use some oil on a cloth and just wipe it down.To have a more weather resistant finish, you can use Gun Kote over the existing finish.Just be sure to remove all of the grease and oil before you start. As for the bore, you have a chrome lined bore, use a good Gun cleaning solvent and follow up with a very lightly oiled patch. The blue streaks should start disapearing in time.
