I have two .223 AK's that run on bulgy .223 mags so I have about 15 mags and was thinking about picking up a SAR3.  However, I don't really want to buy the weiger mags if possible.  Can the SAR3 be modified to reliably run on bulgy .223 mags?  If so, what kind of work is involved?

Some people use the bulgarian .223 mags with no problems, others have problems. I have no idea what can cause a problem or what a fix would be, but the weigers are the only real 100% mag for a SAR-3.

What 223 variants are you running with Bulgy mags?

I have a bulgy .223 krink kit built up on a GT 1.0mm reciever and a 102 (.223) bulgy kit built up on a GT 1.0mm reciever...well that is not 100% true the 102 is being built right now so I don't have that one in hand yet.  I want to use the SAR3 as a range beater, but don't want to have to buy all new mags if possible.

Damn - you do have a problem.  Guys with Krinks shouldn't complain about $50 worth of Weiger mags from Interordnance.

I'll help you.  Sell me your Krink cheap and I'll mail my SAR-3 and a small box of Weigers and East German bakelites to feed your new pair of SAR-3s!

Next, I'll help you with that bad gas mileage problem on your Porsche.

Since the very straight .223 round is fussy about feed angle, mods that make a mag work in one may kill it for the other.

Mags may be filed under the front of the feed lips to help rounds exit at a higher angle. Feedramps can also be used/changed; see Saiga conversion info in the Russian forum for good samples of this.

But $15 Weigers are sooo easy.

OK, OK, you have made your point.  I will just pick up some weigers.
