I recently bought two Wasr's and want to keep the existing packetized finish but am worried about rust prevention. I have field stripped, removed furniture and sprayed all metal with break cleaner, cleaned with compressed air and then coated with Break Free CLP.

What is everyone doing to keep rust away?

What products are you using?

Is anyone using any home made brews to prevent rust?

Usually with parkerized guns I like to give them a thick coat of CLP when new. The parkerizing acts almost like a sponge and holds the oil really well.

Meguiars spray car wax (without the polishing compound in it); clean the gun, wipe down, spray on and wipe down again. Works great on keeping my wheel guns rust free in leather holsters.

Stripped down and soaking is CLP now, I think I will leave it on heavy, store in a gun sock and wipe down as needed before shooting. I am a little surprised no one has chimed in with home made concoctions to prevent rust.

+1, Eezox is great stuff. Little too toxic for me to use but it's even more effective than CorrosionX Aviation.

Since it is a parkerized finish all it needs is a light coat of CLP or oil.

I spent a couple hours looking for people testing various rust inhibitors. This stuff seemed to do very well, even better than CLP. Surprised me.

I use eezox to prevent rust. So far I haven't had any issues.

On the SAR-1 I use a light coating of RIG grease. Stays where you put it and seems to absorb into the finish for long term protection.

Hose it down good with ATF, let it really soak in, ATF is a ton cheaper (and works better) so you can afford to use a lot. Once you have wetted it down like that, it will stay oiled unless you purposefully degrease it with brake parts cleaner, and will never rust.

CLP on most guns. I spray paint my AK's so they never need any protection.

First: Kano Kroil ( penetrates into the tightest areas). Then CLP. Clean all parts first if needed w/brake cleaner.

I rub some light oil on the finish, paying particular attention to areas which I have touched.
Then I stop worrying about it since a little rust on the outside wouldn't really hurt the weapon.

One of the two prevents rust.

I clean with Hoppes after shooting then rub with light coat of synthetic gun oil. I've never had a problem with rust.

Rust prevention is spelled Eezox and parkerized metal loves to soak it up.
