Don't get a yugo Most have rusted out barrels, the ones that don't are being sold for more money. The Romanians are very nice, I've got 2 from Centerfire Systems.com, 4 from DPH arms (scott in EE), they were all beutiful, the authentic military Romy AKs are good, it's the comercially made Romanians like Centery sells that lack the craftsmanship. I got 1 romy from Interordnance, NEVER again, I paid $100 +shipping, waited several months and got a POS with no matching numbers, cracked hand guard, missing parts, ect, ect, ect. Don't buy from IO!

Got my Romy from www.sksman.com, very good G model kit, made in 1986, all matching numbers, no cracks or damage on the stock or foregrip, some minor scratches on the upper handguard wood.  Nothing major, and I eventually intend to fit it with wood from Ironwood designs when I finally build it.  I have it built as a dummy gun right now.  Most likely going to do a screw build simply because of lack of money and space around my townhouse for a 12 ton press and all that stuff.  Otherwise I'd do rivets.  I know I can go back and rivet later if I feel like it, I'd just need a new trunnion (even though i have heard some people were able to convert from screw to rivet built without having to ditch the trunnion).

I got six kits from AIM surplus, all 1986 manufacture dates in new unfired condition and also G model kits.   What is the G for?
Oh and I paid $89 each last week.

most places are runnin out of em though... damned barrel ban is gettin enforced, so snatch em up!

Oh yeah, I get 'em in 5 packs from AIM. $89 per kit, and a new Romanian 30 mag with each kit. They all are 1985-1986. These kits are so new, some have the rolled up piece of oil paper packing in the bore, and oil paper under the rear sight, and ooze in some kind of preservative oil.

I got a Rommy kit from akparts.com and it was an 86' that must have been refubished to like new condition before it's demilling.  Chrome lined barrel with sharp rifling, brand new gas piston, and new looking bolt carrier, and all matching numbers.  It was my first build and it shoots great!

I just got my very first (and only) Romy kit from Clearview today. It's a good kit. It came with a new Gas piston, bolt, and bolt carrier so the #'s weren't all matching, but everything looks solid.

Bob, your trunions will be OK. The rivets swell alot and expand quite a bit when smashed, more than enough to fill the screw holes.

My Romy kit from Centerfire was new.  It still had a piece of paper in the barrel.

Romanian Kits..
I ordered a couple of kits from Shooters Wholesale.. and paid 99 bux a piece for a Romanian Kit..  (2 of the kits had all matching numbers) included cleaning rod with no magazines.  <-- did not take CC or Paypal.. shipping & handling was slow

I ordered 5 kits from AIM Surplus and paid 89.00 a piece..  (all kits had matching numbers except two had a cover plate with the numbers marked out) included the cleaning rod and 30 round magazines. <- shipping was good

Both companies sent me 1985 & 86 ers.. all parts were present, barrels were shiny and sharp..  wood was in decent condition. I would order from either company again.h..

I have to agree the romy kits are nice. I have bought 5 over the summer and may get another or two. Great for a first build.

Plus they are great for modding, I got a kit from Centerfire in July and just got aroung to checking it out, and the no.'s are mismatched!  I called CFS and told them and them helped my out and gave me a deal on some stuff so I kept the kit and decided to make a pistol out of it.  I have a lathe and a mill so I finished most of the work last night (I work at nights and when I'm off I am awake all night).  It's nearly done and it will have a 9.5 inch barrel.  Yea the krinks are nice, but I would rather buy 5 more Romy's and play with them.
