Just picked up 3 Romy kits and am ready to start building. Was wondering if the bolt cutter rivet tools work as well as say a Plinker/ak-builder rivet jig.  Do these jigs have any advantages over the modified bolt cutters?

I have used the bolt cutter tool as well as the AK-Builder rivet jig. No comparison. The rivet jig is much easier to use and gave me much better looking rivets. It also cost 5 times as much as a bolt cutter tool.

I have both and only use the bolt cutters on certain siderail rivets. I would get the ak-builder jig. It will also dimple the receiver holes where needed for the swell neck rivets.

The bolt cutter rivet tool is fine. The first time around is rough, but they get better with practice.

Most of my bolt cutter rivets look great. One was bad (tilted) which I removed and redid. Practice does help. You have to make sure the head is flush and square with the receiver and the tail is perpendicular to the jaw. Then, you squish and voila.
